Mr. B.'s BioMy name is Mr. Busillo, and I am a History teacher at Chambersburg Area Senior High School. I am from a semi rural township of New London, Pennsylvania. I am an alumnus of West Chester University and hold a master’s degree in Special Education, and bachelor’s degrees in History and Philosophy. I began my teaching career in Durham, North Carolina. where, I worked on an inclusion team, engaging students with a multiplicity of learning and developmental disabilities. Upon my return to PA, I had the opportunity to work in an alternative educational setting in York. Since the fall of 2012, I have been a social studies teacher at CASHS.
In my current position, I teach AP U.S. History, and Modern U.S. History. I strive everyday to present comprehensive units that have a multicultural emphasis, consolidate important concepts, and celebrate diversity. My present areas of focus are literacy and technology. Although Social Studies is not a state-tested subject, the literacy skills necessary for success in other areas, take a place of prominence in my lessons. I consistently endeavor to incorporate literacy strategies into every aspect of my classes, and to align my curriculum to state and national standards. I have concentrated on using Socratic Seminar-style discussion to help students understand, analyze, and explain difficult primary source material. With respect to technology, I believe its place is to heighten the learning experience. To that end, I use tools provided by Google to reach my students where they already are, and to prepare them for where they will be in the future. From group discussions, to collaborative projects using Drive and Docs, to the greater availability and virtual office hours afforded by Gmail and Hangouts, the online environment has become virtual extension of the classroom itself. Of course, while literacy skills and effective use of technology are important tools, perhaps my greatest asset, is the enthusiasm I bring to the classroom. Students are excited to come to class every day, because they see the passion I have for the material I teach. From their excitement I am able to kindle an interest in the subject matter that makes learning a joy rather than a chore. I am excited to combine my teaching ability, compassion, and enthusiasm, to make a positive contribution to my (and your) students' lives. Please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or concerns.. Sincerely, Matthew A. Busillo [email protected] | |||
